What I Learned From My Dog About Online Marketing
I haven’t been here for a while as my little dog Lucky passed away just yesterday morning and before that I spent much time with her even on my birthday when she showed signs that she had to leave soon enough.
I feel that it’s a great opportunity here for me to say what I believe I’ve learned from Lucky over the past 7-8 years. I’ll do my best to relate what I’ve learned from her to the Online Marketing(or Marketing Online) niche as I don’t want to bore you guys or show emotions about my lost. So here we go:
1. She Always Lived In The NOW
When she developed cataract, her eye sight got worse and worse and she constantly walked straight into the walls at home. She probably hit the wall 30-40 times a day walking around the house everyday. But you know what?? She didn’t give up life!! She lived in the NOW even though she could barely see her way ahead since around 9 months ago. She would look for milk first thing in the morning like she always used to and didn’t complain about hitting the wall a few times to get to her bowl.
Now let’s translate that……How many people are living in the NOW?? How many of us waking up in the morning with a negative feeling already?? How many people complained that their life was meant to be better?? How many Internet marketers wish they should have made more money??
So why don’t we just embrace the power of NOW and acknowledge that it’s a brand new day and we have the right to choose how we live the day?? We may have problems and stuff that we have to deal with(who doesn’t??) but can we instead wake up and say “Today is a new day. A new, fresh, exciting day” and have a positive outlook for the day instead.
2. She Always Enjoyed Life
When Lucky’s heart got bigger and bigger(can’t remember the name of the condition but it was genetic) and her rib cage looked bigger than the rest of her body she was still enjoying life like she always had when she was younger and healthier. Despite her heart condition, she would still go under the sun(after a few bangs to the wall) and have a bit of sun bath whenever the weather would permit. She also loved her ears scratched every time I did that to her and rolling her head around. Plus, she always enjoyed every dinner (Pedigree puppy range) at night and never looked sad or disappointed about her health challenges when she was eating.
SO what do they mean?? Lucky was trying to teach me that I should enjoy life!! Dean Holland also said it many times during his live coaching calls that we need to enjoy what we’re doing online. If we don’t enjoy what we’re doing then we’re slaves!!
Don’t get me wrong……I didn’t quite enjoy setting up this blog at the beginning as I was stuck with different themes and widgets etc. Now that I started blogging and seeing other people’s comments and looking at others’ blogs I actually quite enjoying it now. Why?? Because I can gain new information while visiting others blogs(such as Gravator) and seeing comments left by others under my blog posts made me feel good that I’m providing contents that people like and hopefully they find them useful.
Enjoy whatever that you like to do. First, you feel motivated to do it. Second, you feel happier as you’re enjoying your tasks(i.e no slave). Third, if a little dog can do it despite health challenges, why can’t you??
3. Life Is Too Short!!
We all know that dogs have a much shorter life span than us humans. What I discovered was that there were tasks in my life where I had wasted too much time “trying to figure out” and didn’t get to spend more time with Lucky in the past. For example, I wrote earlier about how I wasted so much time on Wordpress themes. The point is that I could let someone who knows how to do this and pay a reasonable fee to deal with that(and teach me too) instead of trying to learn all the theme functionality, widgets, Gravator and a whole bunch of plugins all by myself. Instead, for blogging, all I really needed to know were how to post new posts like this one, prevent spam comments, select categories and tags etc. That’s all I needed for blogging!!
It’s like driving a car. Most of us only know how to drive and don’t know how to service or repair a car. When it comes to car servicing/repair it’s best to find a good mechanic to sort that out instead of getting dirty with engine oil and grease. Recently, I had a nail in the one of the tyres and when I tried to pull it out I heard gas coming out of the tyre. I heard of stuff called “tyre repair kit” but I was reluctant to try that as I had no experience of using such kit and didn’t know how much time I’d be needed to waste to do that. So I drove to a tyre shop and got it fixed in 5 minutes for $15(AUD). If I had gone for a repair kit(still cost money) and tried to learn how to use it etc that’s gonna take hours, and I would have to pray that the tyre would be safe enough to drive after being repaired by a “tyre newbie”.
Another point I must say is that we all have 24 hours a day, that’s all!! No one lives more than 24 hours a day because we only have 24 hours a day!! So do you want more free time to do things that we enjoy doing?? Maybe it’s time to think about if some of the day’s tasks should be taken care of by others instead?? Or at least start thinking about how to spend time more efficiently and effectively(aka time management)??
Ok, that’s it for now. This post is the longest yet by me and I hope you guys not falling asleep reading this far.
Oh……. if any of you learned anything from your pets and would like to share feel free to comment below. I would love to hear from you.
Enjoy Life, Huddson

Oh, my friend. I am writing this comment with tears in my eyes. My heart hurts for your loss. A couple of years ago I would not have understood as I did not have a dog. Now, I have the best dog in the world (we all do)that we rescued from the shelter, and I know that day will come for her too and it hurts just thinking about it.
Your post was nice. The way you made a correlation between you and your Lucky.
Again, I’m so sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,
Ed

Huddson,
Really sorry for your loss. Lucky looked like a really sweet pooch. Know what you’re feeling right now, as I have lost many good dog buds in my life. Once you’ve had a chance to grieve the loss of Lucky, you should get yourself another dog. Like you said yourself, you can learn a lot from a dog. The coolest thing about dogs is their unconditional love. No matter if you’re cool or a nerd, nice or an arse, happy, mad or sad, they are always there, patiently waiting to bring a little sunshine into your day.
Keep on enjoying each moment, Huddson.
Talk soon,
Mike

Hey Huddson
My condolances for your loss my Freind.
I know this may seem a bit harsh after your loss but it’s a bit like when you fall off your horse or bike…you’ve got to pick yourself up and get back in the saddle..and carry on …life goes on my Friend wether we like it or not.
So get out there …get yourself another little friend …
because they give so much without asking for much in return.
Take care.

hmmm.. this story reminded me of the lost of my dog when i was young. I cried for days. I can say I know how you feel.
I totally concur with you how we should face life as the way lucky has – never give up, appreciate life, never give up.
On top of that (you should read the post by Yaro Starak: http://www.Entrepreneurs-Journey.com), we all need to be persistent, and patient – We will get there !!!!
all the best

Huddson,
Lucky looks like an absolute cutie! I can only imagine what you must be going through. I know the time will come for my two Jack Russell Terriers one day, too, they are getting on with their lives, and I do not want to think about it. Lucky knows how much you loved her, and I admire you for taking her as an example of how we should live our lives. It’s all true what you say, and we should remind ourselves of it more often, when we are stressed or unhappy.
Keep your spirits up, Lucky will be in good hands in doggie heaven, I’m sure.

Hey Huddson,
I am so sorry to hear that you lost Lucky. I am actally a cat person and I have CoCo and she has a special place in my heart. So I can just imagine what you are going through with your loss. As I have lost one of my cats, Claudi, in the past.
And yes, if we observe our animals, we do learn alot from them, yes, like the Power of Now. There is actually a book out my Eckhart Tolle by that name. And it’s all about just living in the present moment and enjoying everything that is in front of us, right at this present time.
You’re doing some beautiful work over here and I already know from Facebook that you are a great person and will succeed.
Keep up the great posts and you will go very far.
Take care,

You have a great blog with nice content.
I think out-sourcing generally is the way to go.It is much better if we stick to what we know and/or enjoy…after all, that is what keeps the wheels of industry turning isn’t it?
Onwards and Upwards Huddson,

Ronnie.

Hey Huddson,
Sorry for your loss.
What a moving post, couldn’t help but think of my little mutt while reading. Great life lessons to be learnt also.
If you don’t enjoy it don’t do it, find someone to do it for you that way you are free to work on the areas you do enjoy and will get more done without putting off the jobs you don’t want to do.
All the best,

Hi Hudson,
I am so sorry for your loss – she was so CUTE! I have such a heart for animals – if I had my way, I’d be Dr. Doolittle!
I loved your post – I think we can all learn from animals. Our current menagerie is made up of 3 cats and a fish! Our baby kitty, Zoe – is a MODEL of taking charge and getting involved. Barely four months old now and weighing in at a scant 3lbs or so.. she has completely commandeered every space our two boy kitties (12 lbs and 16 lbs) have ever been known to enjoy – and they let her!
The lesson I have learned from little Zoe is this… constant perseverance (consistent persistence)pays off!
So… I keep on working, keep on learnin’ and keep sharin’
Peace~
Leanne
Hi Huddson,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have both dogs and cats and I love them all to death. I don’t have kids, so to me they are my kids. It makes me sad leaving them at home for 8 hours a day while I’m at my day job. I think pets really brighten up peoples lives. When you get home each day they are always so happy to see you and they do really love you unconditionally.
I lost two of my cats in the last 5 years and it was tough both times. One got really sick suddenly and the vet couldn’t pin down what caused it. He passed within the week. Then his brother came down with a really rare skin tumor last year that we couldn’t get under control.
I totally agree with you on having someone help set up your blog. I did the same thing. I took forever trying to pick out a theme, then I struggled with the widgets, then my theme didn’t work with some widgets so I had to get a new theme …. all that time I could have been blogging and building my content. Lesson learned anyhow.
Take care, Heidi

Hey Huddson,
Sorry to hear of your loss.
We had a little cairn terrier (very similar to Lucky) who died a couple years back and we were devastated, as you are.
The comfort I always take from the memories, is that he was loved and cared for and had a great life. It’s obvious that Lucky had the same – so think of the happy memories and take comfort in the knowledge that lucky also had a great life because you looked after her.
Talk soon,
Andrew.
That’s an excellent post. So sorry about your dog … but it does look like she lived a very happy life, till the end.
I have had a lot of cats in my life. And have had some pretty serious losses when they died. Right now I have two recently-adopted kittens. They are extremely amusing, and each one of them has a very strong personality. They each have their quirks, favorite toys and games, funny habits, and a ton of affection.
They never seem to stop having fun either.

Huddson,
Lucky was a beautiful dog. I’m sure she brought you many hours of joy, peace and serenity. I find dogs to be very therapeutic. Their unconditional love is all the medicine you need on a bad day when you’re feeling depressed or feeling physical pain. They have a way of making the pain go away . . . they make us feel so much better when we see their soulful eyes and watch their tail wag with anticipation of receiving your love and attention (in exchange for their unconditional love).
I lost my baby, “Trina” (a Lhasa Apso), almost a year ago. I think about her every day and my heart still hurts. I haven’t gotten over her lost yet, so I can imagine how you may be feeling. However, a smile comes to my face when I think about the funny things she used to do! My heart smiles through the tears.
I just found your blog; it’s full of great content and I’ve bookmarked it because I will be returning often to visit. Feel free to drop by my blog which I’ve recently started. I’m always open to learn new things to make me a better blogger; offer great content and information to my readers; and help take the pain away.
I love your style of writing, too. Keep up the good work and continue to give us blog posts that make us smile, cry and think . . . it reminds us that we are human and its the only thing that distinguishes us from our computer (IMHO).
